I have no idea who came up with the clever plan to double my student loan money. All I can remember now, is that an old friend (who shall remain nameless here) and I, agreed to go 50/50 on something like 750 hits of “purple barrel” acid. I would contact this “Guy” guy, arrange the deal (and all aspects of that transaction) and my friend would sell the acid to a bunch of bikers he knew while I was away at college.

And it worked!

The deal went off without a hitch really, and my friend and I ended up with double our money and a good story to boot. (I think it’s a good story anyway)

The bag of pills cost us around $1,500 and it only took a few months for my friend to sell them all. Sure this may sound like peanuts to some, but to little ol’ “good boy” me this was as big time as I could have imagined. Anyway $1,500 turned into three grand is not exactly chump change for twenty-somethings in 1980 or even now, Yes?

So there.

So this is how it went down. (See, I’m now using big time gangsta lingo… cool eh?)

My friend and I drove my Holsum Bread company van (an unmarked white van, no company logos or anything) from Rochester to meet with sketchy drug dealer character “Guy” dude someplace in rural northern Iowa, where the three of us got into Guy’s car and went down to Iowa City and bought the stuff from his supplier there.

Guy was staying in a large Winnebago with his girlfriend at some skeet-shooting retreat or some such thing. I don’t remember, and we weren’t there for but the few minutes it took Guy to put his guns away, say bye bye to girly girl and cram us three into his little sports car and head out. It was getting dark and it would take about three hours to get there (normally four, but Guy drove REALLY FAST!) and three hours back. We needed to be back to the Winnebago well before dawn for reasons Guy never shared.

My nameless friend and I then made it back to Rochester without incident and that was that.

So there you have the nuts and bolts of my story of the stupidest thing I have ever done in my life. I kept details out of today’s post because I want to spend a bit more time on those and it’s my day off tomorrow so…

Till then…
