Well I used to be a good boy, Always did what I was told
I never thought of making trouble, never thought of being bold
Always listened to my mother, was afraid of my dad
Always listened to my teachers, I sat in front of the class
Then I kinda went to college and I learned how to drink
Then I took all kinds of mind expanding substances and I watched myself think

Well I tried out being normal then I tried out being cool
Then I tried to follow politics and I dropped out of school
I married any girl who’d love me as I went round the globe
I didn’t know what I wanted I just followed my soul
Then I left it all behind me in the heat of the night
Now I’m living in Hawaii and I’m feeling alright

Well I used to be a good boy, but that’s a long time ago
If it was ever good for anything it’s in the stories I have told
Now I don’t do much of anything I don’t make such a fuss
I just live to write songs and sing as I’m driving my bus
