“Sometimes the house of the future is better built, lighter and larger than all the houses of the past, so that the image of the dream house is opposed to that of the childhood home. Late in life, with indomitable courage, we continue to say that we are going to do what we have not yet done: we are going to build a house…Maybe it is a good thing for us to keep a few dreams of a house that we shall live in later, always later, so much later, in fact, that we shall not have time to achieve it. For a house that was final, one that stood in symmetrical relation to the house we were born in, would lead to thoughts–serious, sad thoughts–and not to dreams. It is better to live in a state of impermanence than in one of finality.”

The above quote is from the section I just read this morning and thus, my inspiration.

——

My sweetheart and I are building a house of the future.
A future together.
Together we now live in this “state of impermanence”.
Together we imagine, we plan, we dream.
All this we do (and yes, with that “indomitable courage”) we do with that image in mind.
All we say we are going to do.
All we have not yet done.
We say and do it all.
Together.

My sweetheart and I live in houses of the present.
A present apart.
Apart we each live in this “state of impermanence”.
Apart we examine, we assess, we decide.
All this we do (and yes, with that “indomitable courage”) we do with this reality in mind.
All we say we do.
All we do.
We say and do it all.
Apart.

My sweetheart and I have lived in many houses of the past.
A past both together and apart.
We lived then thus in our respective “state of impermanence”.
We lived then thus with our hopes and our dreams.
All this we did (and yes, with that “indomitable courage”) we did without finality in our hearts.
All we said we did.
All we did.
We said and did it all.
Together and apart.

Blessed…
