The more I live in the moment, the better that moment gets.

But don’t follow me.
Don’t make so much of these, my musings.

I’m a lighthouse not a rescue party.
I’m just sitting here, in my little mind-play place.

Emitting “enlightened” delusions to a post-meaning universe.

Imagine this…

Humanity’s primary function on this planet is to emit carbon into the atmosphere.

Yea, I know it sounds silly, crazy even but please hear me out.
Think of the Earth as a self-aware, self-regulating system of biological organisms.
Networked together and forming one giant organism.
Yes, this is (of course) not a new idea at all.
It’s actually quite popular among many of my friends.

But usually, in the most common scenarios of this, we humans are seen (at best) as an anomaly in the system.
A dangerously rouge animal element.
The black sheep of the bunch.
Desperately in need of a good culling.

At best.

At worst (according to these my slightly more misanthropic cohorts) we are blight, a virus.

Cancer.

An over-population of oil drilling, everything-burning, plastic-producing parasites.
Toxic to the essential bio-matrix of microbes, plants, bugs and all other “higher” animals.
In which case we are slated for extinction.

Or… should be anyway.
Before we make everything else extinct.

——

But imagine that we are instead simply the bi-pedal, tool-using, pattern-recognizing mammals we were made to be.
Creatures created, to raise the surface temperature of the planet by doing all this drilling, producing and burning of everything we can find.

Imagine that we are also over-populating the place… by design.
That the planet (let’s call it Guy-a) has intended us to do this.
Why?

Perhaps Guy-a knows that only by allowing us to bring ourselves (and everything else) to the brink of extinction, can we be shocked into a true understanding of our role in the system as a whole.

Perhaps Guy-a knows that the surface temperature regulation devices it has been using up to this point (volcanic, atmospheric etc… ) are insufficient in that they cause mass extinctions before any intelligent species are able to develop the technology necessary for long-term, and more targeted regulation.

This hyper-intelligent planet could be allowing (even encouraging) the very behavior that makes us so powerful and thus… so dangerous.
But it is also expecting that we will eventually see (before it’s too late) exactly what is needed for balance.
And it knows we must come to this realization on our own.

In other words, Guy-a is a gambler.

Perhaps our gambler planet is betting that we can learn to self-regulate our behavior and finally mature and direct our technological powers to serve that balance.

Imagine that Guy-a is betting that we humans will finally understand our intended role and thus choose to take our place as a powerful element in this (for us) unimaginably complex (and constantly becoming more so) god-like organic system.

So Guy-a can further evolve its own consciousness through us.

Perhaps it knows that this is the only way it can reach its true potential.
At the risk of destroying it all.

This gambler is thus playing a high-stakes game of chance.

With a once-in-a-universal-life-time chance to win so big.
That it’s worth betting the farm.

How’s that for free will?

Just another playfully radical thought, eh?
Thanks for listening.
