The Life of Brian (In the Now)

I love to journal by telling stories. What’s going on in the life of Brian, in the now. Whether it be from stuff that happens at work, while hanging out with friends or while working on other creative projects. Stuff happens that I may just feel a need to interrupt my usual memoir-writing activity, that is this blog’s primary function. I share those stories here.

12/15/18: Howzit!

It was a chill day all round. A good day. A leisurely loquacious morning with a new housemate. Later... a lazily languid and largely laconic drive. My sweetheart then chimed in... in fine form. At around 10:27 PM my sweetheart responded to my "Hey sweetheart, how's your day going?" and reported a fine start to her [...]

12/14/18: Constant Love

"The only thing that is constant, is change" ------ Heraclitus of Ephesus "All you need is love" ------ John Lennon -------------------------------------------- The power went out last night and didn't get back on till noon today, so I went for an early lunch at the local "Down to Earth" health food market to try and write. Try [...]

12/12/18: Commitments, Discoveries and Random Blessings

Doing a bit of cleaning this morning, I come across a small drawing made for me by my dear friend's daughter. I believe she was ten years old at the time. I keep it on my desk in a small, raku, porcelain pinch-pot (made by someone I knew in college but have now forgotten who) [...]

12/9/18: In Between

In between love And trying to scheme love Who can say what we will find? ------ Tom Waits ---------------------------------------------- Ten minutes and I'll board my flight. Ten minutes and I'll be on my last leg of this, my return to Oahu. A man passes by and comments on my guitar case. "Looks like that baby's [...]

12/8/18: Morning Cup

Having filled the handy little device with my sweetheart's favorite... Cameron's Whole Bean Organic Velvet Moon, I pick up the old Toastmaster grinder (that she found at a garage sale so long ago for all of three dollars) and give it a shake while holding down the switch. It helps grind the coffee beans more [...]

12/7/18: This Still Dark, Minnesota Morning

6:50 am... This still dark Minnesota morning maintains my mildly melancholy mood. It will be getting light soon but that matters, at all not much. I write in relative silence as the not too distant (but not too annoyingly close) continuous beeping of my sweetheart's son's alarm... continues. It's getting so I'm accounting it as [...]

11/29/18: Afternoon Meditation

"Gray-Brown, White-Gray... Tawny-Slate New Landscape... Not Dirty Yet." ------ Text from my Sweetheart ------------------------------------------------------------- Inspiration comes at random. From wherever I happen to be looking at the time, whatever I happen to be paying attention to or thinking about. Sometimes it just drops in my lap like a clump of snow or my sweetheart's hand. [...]

11/28/18: Perspective?

It's all a bit surreal to me now. I sit here in the seventeenth floor lobby of the Mayo Clinic Gonda Building and look out over the pedestrian mall below. Just a little over two months ago, I was in this very spot and things were very different indeed. Back then, I was sweating bullets [...]

11/27/18: All Things Naked and Beautiful

"No creature is a better judge of comfort than a cat." ------ James Harriot ---------------------------------------------- Julius turns away from me and looks out the window... without comment. It's cold outside so there's no way I'm going to open it for him. He doesn't seem to be expecting me too anyway. He doesn't seem to be [...]
