It’s all a bit surreal to me now.

I sit here in the seventeenth floor lobby of the Mayo Clinic Gonda Building and look out over the pedestrian mall below. Just a little over two months ago, I was in this very spot and things were very different indeed.

Back then, I was sweating bullets while waiting on the clinic’s version of “standby” to try and get the appointments I’d need. To get myself plugged into a system that I had no idea how to navigate.

Yet.

Fortunately, I am blessed with an amazing network of support. Friends who lived and worked here, friends who’d been through this system before and could guide me from afar. Friends who put me up, put me in touch and put me at ease.

I could never have made it without them.

They walked me though the process, checked up on my progress, hosted me at their homes and shuttled me to and fro. They held my hand, held my bags, fed me, bed me… one friend even showed his FACE!

You know who you are.

In less than two weeks, I’ll be back in Hawaii and back at work two weeks after that, but this experience will always be with me. Especially regarding one person in particular.

She knows who she is.

Time for a nap.

Blessed…
