an ocean of collective power
so far beyond the pale
few who ever witness one
survive to tell the tale
until the draupner wave
many considered the phenomenon known as
the rogue wave
to be a myth
recorded in 1995 at unit e of the draupner platform, a gas pipeline support complex located in the north sea about 160 km (100 mi) southwest from the southern tip of norway
at 3 pm on 1 january 1995, the device recorded a rogue wave with a maximum wave height of 25.6 m (84 ft) peak elevation above still water level was 18.5 m (61 ft) the reading was confirmed by the other sensors
the platform sustained minor damage in the event
the study of waves is a huge topic
apparently encompassing just about everything there is
everything
since the draupner wave there has been a great deal of study to try and predict this particular kind of wave
all to no avail, but it does seem logical to surmise that…
wherever there are waves
there might also be rogue
quantum waves
quantum systems obey wave equations that predict particle probability distributions
these particles are associated with discrete values called quanta for properties such as spin, electric charge and magnetic moment
these particles arrive one at time, randomly, but build up a pattern
for macroscopic particles, because of their extremely short wavelengths, wave properties usually cannot be detected
although the use of the wave–particle duality has worked well in physics, the meaning or interpretation has not been satisfactorily resolved
(see interpretations of quantum mechanics)
gravity waves
how do we know that gravitational waves exist?
in 2015, scientists detected gravitational waves for the very first time
they used a very sensitive instrument called ligo (laser interferometer gravitational-wave observatory)
these gravitational waves happened when two black holes crashed into one another
think about it
it took two black holes crashing into one another for scientists to even detect the existence of gravity waves
i wonder what a rogue quantum or gravitational wave would be like
dark matter waves
dark matter could consist of particles so ultralight, they behave more like waves
although the motions of galaxies provide evidence that dark matter exists, scientists have yet to directly detect the invisible stuff, or figure out what it could be made of
so…
dark matter and quantum waves might exist
particles can be detected
particles that behave like waves
electrons were once called particles and are now known as wave packets
i find this all way too interesting and so for some reason my brain takes me to other aspects of existence
rogue brain waves
or emotional waves
or perhaps…
rogue social justice waves (a particle of a smidgen of a thought experiment)
could social change be seen in these terms?
as waves?
if so they certainly have had their rogues
John Brown
The Lowry Gang
The Anti Man-hunting League
to name just a few and in regard to just one battlefield of social justice
is this even a valid line of thinking or am i playing way too fast and loose with the analogy?
what would have to happen for someone with the brains and resources to study it this way or…
are they already?
hmm…
