clutching the warmth of security
a desperate respite
from pernicious existential dread
the exhale is comprehensive

odd nonsequitous visions
give the mind pause
curious
where lay the edge of sanity

is this who we are
does the species fail
simply because failure
has been redefined as inevitability

but now as the breath
becomes totality
and every pore of this old dry skin
finds its function

movement alone is the privilege
with which to navigate
when jacob’s staff is broken
and the horizon disappears
