a twenty-five-year-old
recently asked me if i
“believed in regulation”

i don’t remember my exact response but…
it’s way too simple

when regulation is driven by profit
the cost/benefit balance
is measured
in terms of profit
or lack-there-of

when regulation is driven by public well-being
the cost/benefit balance
is measured
in terms of public well-being
or lack-there-of

obviously

i tried to temper my tone
to avoid the common
old curmudgeonly response

later in the conversation
the twenty-five-year-old
gave critique
regarding the questionable awareness
of yet younger
“adults”

ah…
life is good
