I heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it please the lord
But you don’t really care for music, do ya?

— Leonard Cohen

Yesterday I had a nice conversation with a friend.

We spoke of many things that matter, things we don’t always share. We shared our love of life, and the love we have for each other.

My friend and I gave each other the gift or our attention, our deference. The ability to laugh, cry and be the friend that anyone would choose.

We chose each other.

Our choice became our bond. A bond that will be there, so long as the choice is there. A bond that can stretch over time and space…

Into infinity.

I spoke to another friend about a recent idea, a metaphor.

I’ve mentioned this metaphor to a few other friends and they all seemed to like it. It’s a metaphor intended to represent the tenor of our times as affected by one specific, powerful individual. We all know the name but I refuse to use it.

I prefer the metaphor.

Two years ago, I had the idea to use a different metaphor in reference to this individual. I had thought it necessary to focus on how much my own action/inaction is responsibile for the situation in which I find myself. How pointless is it to point and poke at unwanted power, that thrives on being pointed at…

And poked.

I still think this necessary, but I have changed the specific metaphor. I have found a more intimate one. One that speaks to me from the depths of my body and resonates as it radiates outward…

Into infinity.

——

This morning another friend with whom I have not spoken of this metaphor, mentioned something that moved me.

It was a simple thing, hardly worth mentioning yet… it moved me more then any power could possibly do so. So powerful that I could not contain myself.

I had to move.

Into infinity.

Blessed…
