Yesterday while scanning Facebook, I saw an obviously disgruntled “friend” declare with disgust that…

“Facebook sucks, I’m outta here.”

This makes me sad. Not because the particular friend will no longer be part of my FB experience. I am happy to have developed my own way of incorporating this nearly totalitarian technological tool of connectivity… this most ubiquitous behemoth of social media, into my life in a way that serves me well. I’m fine with it.

Such an occurrence of friend flame-out as this, is now little more than a curiosity to me.

The announced FB friend departure also fails to make me sad because of worry for him or some such thing. I know the guy and like him, but he is not a particularly close friend and I feel no need to find out what has him so bothered.

No… I am saddened by the more general phenomena this represents.

That otherwise intelligent and rational people are so engaged with, and affected by this THING, that they place any of their personal power at all, upon their relationship with…

It.

It’s a THING!

Goodness gracious get a grip!

It’s like some guy from the early twentieth century blaming the entire telephone system because his wife uses it to gossip about the neighbors.

This thing that is the internet, social media and the portal that just happens to be the one nearly EVERYONE uses to connect… IT connects people. People connecting is an essential part of our humanity. We are social beings and we MUST connect to thrive.

The phenomena that makes me sad is how badly many people are at dealing with this.

This connecting with people.

IMHO, if we (as a species) are to continue to develop towards our potential (whatever that looks like) we are going to have to do waaaay better than we currently are at dealing with the FACT that our technological advances can either serve us or enslave us and that it is US that will make that determination.

Blah blah blah…

I now go back to looking for a better recipe for apple crisp and NOT posting my results on FB.

YOU (my dear reader) already know how find out what’s cookin’.

Don’t you?

Blessed…
